What Is SEPRAFILM® Adhesion Barrier?
SEPRAFILM is a clear piece of film that is applied during open pelvic and abdominal surgery. It sticks to your internal tissues and separates your organs to prevent them from attaching to one another as they heal. SEPRAFILM is made up of chemically modified sugars, some of which occur naturally in the human body. Once placed inside the body, SEPRAFILM becomes a gel that contours to your internal anatomy, and you will not feel its presence.
SEPRAFILM is absorbed naturally.
SEPRAFILM is applied during open pelvic and abdominal surgery and stays in place up to seven days while you heal.1 You don’t have to have another procedure to have SEPRAFILM removed; it is absorbed and excreted naturally by your body in less than 28 days after application.2
No adhesion barrier has been more widely evaluated in abdominopelvic surgery.3
SEPRAFILM has been studied in more than 4,000 patients, and featured in more than 20 published human studies.3 It is the only adhesion barrier that has been proven safe and effective in both abdominal and pelvic open surgery. Since its introduction in 1996, SEPRAFILM has been used in more than a million patients. Today, it is the most widely used adhesion barrier in open abdominal and pelvic surgery.3 If you’re having open abdominal or pelvic surgery, be sure to ask your doctor about SEPRAFILM.
