Applying SEPRAFILM®

The videos on the right and illustrations below (click here for a PDF of the illustrations below) demonstrate common application techniques that may help you in using SEPRAFILM Adhesion Barrier. In addition, remember the following tips:

  • For easy application, always use dry gloves or a dry sponge on a sponge stick
  • To ensure adequate coverage, overlap multiple sheets and apply sufficiently beyond the margins of surgical trauma
  • If SEPRAFILM has not completely adhered, use a dry sponge on a sponge stick to pat down SEPRAFILM and lightly moisten SEPRAFILM with standard irrigation solution
  • Once deployed on tissue, you may wet SEPRAFILM with saline to accelerate adherence to tissue and allow for adjacent tissue to slide against the film. This technique also allows for the use of a malleable retractor or FISH with minimal sticking to SEPRAFILM.

Important Safety Information

Seprafilm® Adhesion Barrier is indicated for the reduction of post-surgical adhesions in patients undergoing abdominal or pelvic laparotomy. The type and frequency of adverse events reported are consistent with events typically seen following surgery when used as directed. Seprafilm should not be wrapped around an intestinal anastomosis as such usage may result in increased anastomotic leak related events. For important safety information, please see package insert.
